A 38-year-old Emirati died from the injuries he sustained from a deadly road accident involving two vehicles on a road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The RAK Police investigation blamed fog, low visibility, and inattentive driving for the horrible crash that took place at the Emirates Road roundabout on Thursday morning.
The central operations room of the Ras Al Khaimah police was alerted of the mishap around 6.15am, Khaleej Times has learnt. Traffic patrols, ambulances, civil defence, paramedics, and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the accident site.
The victim failed to see a truck ahead of him and rammed it from behind, according to a senior police officer.
"The 27-year-old truck driver was found to have been driving in the correct lane. He was also adhering to the speed limit," said Col Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK police.
"The victim should have reduced the speed of the SUV he was driving due to low visibility, as always urged by the RAK police."
The Emirati driver sustained gruesome injuries and fractures, particularly in his head. He also bled excessively due to the impact of the collision. The Asian truck driver, who received minor injuries, was shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical car.
"The corpse of the victim was shifted to the hospital for burial by relatives. While the accident file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal action."
Col Naqbi advised all drivers to reduce speed during foggy conditions. "Fog lights should be turned on to inform other drivers on the road, while hazard lights should never be used unless there is an emergency."
