A 54-year-old woman and her two sons, aged 27 and 19, are standing trial at a Dubai court on an attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing and beating up a compatriot with knives and sticks over suspicion he was involved with the family's then missing 18-year-old daughter.
The Emirati family and three other men, also Emiratis aged between 20 and 23, are accused of luring the victim to a villa in Nad Al Hamar where they held him captive in a room for some time. They assaulted the man, stripped him naked and filmed him. They threatened to kill him and circulate his photos if he reported them to the police.
The accused were all charged at the Court of First Instance with attempted murder, illegal imprisonment, forcible theft, sexual assault and issuing criminal threats.
The case that dates back to September 3 last year was registered at Al Rashidiya police station.
The victim told the prosecutor he met the family's daughter about one month prior to the incident on Instagram but he snapped every contact with her after she told him about her domestic problems. "I dropped her at Bur Dubai police station upon her own request and I did not talk to her ever since because I did not want to get into any kind of trouble with her brothers."
However, one of the defendants kept calling him and requesting to meet him after that with reassurances he would not hurt him. That was how he was lured into their villa where he was stabbed in his arms, back and other parts of his body and beaten up.
A police captain said they arrested the mother at 5pm on September 5 last year. "We received a report at 1am, the day before, about a stabbing victim getting treatment at a clinic. We learned from him at the hospital where he was moved that he had been lured into a villa by a family where he was stabbed, kicked and punched."
The victim told the captain that the accused lured him into their villa thinking he was aware about the whereabouts of their missing daughter.
One of the then absconding teenager's brothers claimed to the police that the victim had sent him a picture of his sister on Snapchat with a caption: 'Offered for sex for Dh50'.
When the police officers were given the descriptions of the suspects by the victim, they immediately identified them.
The missing teenager was brought from Abu Dhabi by the Dubai CID officers. She had been staying at a friend's place.
The trial will continue on May 14.
