UAE telecom service provider etisalat will cut service to customers after a 15-day grace period following their bill's due date, according to an etisalat statement quoted in an Arabic newspaper.
According to the statement quoted in Emarat Al Youm, the newly introduced regulation covers landlines, Internet services and mobile phones beginning from the day the bill is due to be paid.
"Users failing to pay the bill after 15 days of issuance will have their services suspended temporarily. The service will be restored only after the bill is paid," the newspaper quoted etisalat as stating.
The bill is sent to customers 30 days after service is provided, after which time the grace period begins.
The newspaper noted that many of its readers have called for the grace period to be made longer, and for installment plans, especially during holiday and festival periods such as this one.
In June 2011, du, etisalat's main competitor, cancelled the 10-day grace period given to customers following non-payment of bills, instead opting for immediate cessation of services if bills are not paid within the due date.
