A 22-year-old man denied in the Court of First Instance of having given his friend heroin, following which the latter died.
The Emirati man, whose friend's dead body was found in a hotel room, shortly after his arrest, only confessed that he possessed and took drugs.
Prosecution records show he admitted during the investigation that he and the deceased man took drugs together.
He claimed that he had to make a cut in his friend's leg in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Another accused, a 24-year-old Emirati, confessed to possessing and taking drugs.
He was apprehended at Al Khawaneej.
The 22-year-old defendant reportedly admitted to investigators that he had given the deceased a heroin injection following which he lost consciousness.
He thought by slashing his leg and making him lose the blood, he would save his life. But his friend died shortly.
A police officer said they acted based on a tip-off that the first defendant possessed and took drugs. "With a prosecution warrant, we arrested him in Bur Dubai on February 28. A key in his possession was that of a hotel room where we found a dead body. It was that of his friend who was taking heroin with him," the officer said.
The accused led the anti-narcotics officers to the second accused, who allegedly provided him with the substance.
