Teachers, parents, children and social workers will soon be educated on UAE's Child Rights Law as part of a new campaign by the Community Development Authority.
The 'My Right' campaign is being held in collaboration with UNICEF and the Dubai Judicial Institute, which will include workshops that will properly explain the rights of children under the law.
The Community Development Authority (CDA) launched the campaign on June 11 and will mainly target Dubai schools' teachers, parents, students and social workers.
Maitha Al Shamsi, the CEO of the Human Rights Sector at CDA, said: "Child protection is a special priority in the national agenda of the UAE, our country is committed to providing a safe environment that ensures serious development for children's capabilities and talents. We take all appropriate steps in the areas of health and education and in all fields to keep the psychological, social and cultural needs of children.
"Wadeema Law (Child Rights Law), issued by the UAE Federal Government in 2016, shows that the UAE is keen to find a coherent legal background to ensure that children in the country have all of their rights, and to get those who violate or neglect these rights accountable."
The Wadeema Law was issued after the death of an eight-year-old Emirati girl, named Wadeema. She was regularly tortured and abused by her father and his girlfriend.
The campaign will start with a workshop that will be held at the Dubai Judicial Institute for social workers and school teachers. Articles under the law will be explained to them, as well as procedures that should be followed if any abuse of negligence is noted.
