Sixty people from different areas of Ras Al Khaimah have launched an initiative to aromatise 50 mosques across the emirate during the holy month of Ramadan.
The drive themed 'Aromatise your house', is supported by Lt-Gen Sheikh Talib bin Saqr Al Qassimi, former commander-in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Mansuri, a government officer and the brain behind the initiative, said they will cover several areas. "We have plans to aromatise mosques in the RAK city, Muairidh, Al Rams, Shamal, Al Sheit, Khuzam, Khalifa city, Julphar, Al Deheisa, Kharan, Al Mamura, Shaam, and Al Jeer."
The move has been inspiring to a group of female volunteers in other emirates, he added. "The female volunteers have aromatised mosques in Sharjah and Khor Fakkan."
Al Mansuri, 41, said the initiative is being implemented on a daily basis during the holy month. "The initiative was inspiring to some people who contributed perfumes and incense to the mosques at their cost."
Not only Emirati nationals chipped in the drive, but also many others from different nationalities. "We are thinking of doing the same drive throughout the year so that more youth do the same in more mosques in their emirates."
Al Mansuri said the drive is meant to add to the serenity of the mosques and keep them smelling good. "This is the least thing we can do for these sacred places of worship," he said, urging everybody to keep the mosques clean and smell good.
