A team of medical experts serving refugees worldwide has called for support from UAE residents to uplift the lives of refugees.
Health Point Foundation, a volunteer-led medical and humanitarian organisation, requires donations and volunteers for its projects, said Dr Hadia Aslam, founder and director of the organisation.
In an event hosted in Dubai, Dr Hadia Aslam, along with her colleague Dr Maniza Malook and UAE-based volunteer Cijal Rahim, said their main areas of concern include getting dentists for their Dental Point project and Arabic speaking volunteers as translators.
"Don't think yourself to be incapable of doing anything for them (refugees). There is a lot you can do. You just have to feel the need to grasp this opportunity and help them," said Dr Aslam. "You have things like food, shelter, sanitation and the lack of all these things causes health problems for them."
They described their experiences of long working hours at refugee camps and shared stories of issues faced in the daily lives of refugees.
The team called upon UAE residents to extend their support to refugees by offering donations and nominating themselves as volunteers. The event held at JamJar Art Gallery also displayed works of Syrian artist Nouran Al Chalati.
Those interested in donating can donate using PayPal at fundraising@healthpointfoundation.org and those who would like to volunteer can contact the foundation through their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/healthpointfoundation or their website: www.healthpointfoundation.org.
