Ras Al Khaimah Police are hunting for someone who uploaded a video on social media showing a large crowd of people in the desert, flouting current social distancing rules implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Police investigations revealed the video was old and therefore fake news.
Ras Al Khaimah Police reiterated calls to the public to refrain from spreading rumours, which can lead to a jail sentence of up to three years and a fine of up to Dh3 million.
Police said the person behind the latest rumour would be tracked down and prosecuted.
They also urged all community members to glean information from official sources, before publishing such videos that hamper the authorities' efforts in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
