Family disputes in Abu Dhabi significantly reduced during the StayHome period and many couples were able to settle issues amicably because they had enough time to communicate and speak out their differences, according to authorities.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) on Saturday announced that the courts in Abu Dhabi have witnessed a marked decrease in the number of family disputes that were received by the department's Family Guidance Division during the recent period.
According to officials, there has been a noticeable increase in the cases of reconciliation between couples, with a concern to preserve the family, especially during the StayHome period.
"Spending time together has helped couples in containing disputes and restoring harmony among the family members," pointed out judicial authorities.
The reconciliation in cases handled by family guidance officers during the first quarter of 2020 was 80 per cent of the total 4,132 sessions considered in the Family Guidance Division in all its units across Abu Dhabi, the ADJD statistics revealed.
There was also a drop in the submission of online applications, with a total of 54 family disputes registered during March, and the number of considered hearings being 1,391. In April, the number of applications recorded remotely was 168 and the considered hearings stood at 597. The number of family consultations provided remotely rose to 702.
The judicial department said the adoption of the video conferencing technology for conducting family guidance hearings remotely as a part of the Covid-19 preventive measures was overwhelmingly welcomed by the customers. Family guidance officials have communicated with couples through modern technology means, while they are in their homes, and workplaces, to resolve their problems. Authorities are providing a competent family counsellor who helps the couples in reaching an amicable agreement and solution that satisfies all parties.
