A restaurant cleaner faced an aggravated assault charge at the Dubai Court of First Instance after he allegedly stabbed a colleague multiple times, causing him a permanent injury.
A forensic report about the victim's injury showed the stabbing in his hand left him with constant pain and difficulty when trying to move his left fingers.
The 22-year-old Pakistani cleaner denied the charge in court.
The incident took place on January 6 and a complaint was filed at Bur Dubai Police Station.
During the public prosecution investigation, the victim, a 22-year-old Pakistani worker, said that on the incident day, he walked in a storage room at the restaurant. "The defendant was standing in the middle, chopping onion. He would not let me pass; there was no space and it was blocked by flour bags."
The defendant then verbally abused him, which prompted the victim to reply in the same way. "He took me by surprise when he stabbed me in the leg and abdomen. I received arm and hand wounds when I tried to stop him and protect myself. Restaurant staff stepped in and I was taken to hospital," the victim told the prosecutor.
A forensic expert said in his report that all the victim's stab cuts were not deep and not deadly.
A court ruling will be issued on November 25.
