A three-year-old girl, who was rescued four hours after being forgotten in a parked car, is recovering after treatment, doctors have said. The little girl had slipped into a state of coma as she was being rushed to Tawam Hospital.
The Emirati girl, identified as Maitha, was admitted on August 16 after suffering from dehydration, suffocation and high brain pressure.
Maitha and her parents had gone to Al Bateen area to visit a relative. The girl fell asleep in the back seat and her father forgot her inside as he locked the car. The parents discovered she was not with them four hours later. On realising their mistake, they rushed the little girl to the hospital.
Dr Nedhal Al Hashaika, head of paediatric intensive care at Tawam Hospital, said the girl was in a state of coma when she was brought in, but she woke up a few days after later. "After being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for 48 hours, she was out of danger and her health improved. She was taken out of the ICU on August 24 and is still recovering. She is now in the paediatric ward."
The hospital said a team of doctors from different departments worked together to provide the life-saving treatment. "She was in a critical condition and almost died. But the combined efforts of doctors and use of new technologies in treating her helped save her," said Dr Al Hashaikh.
