The earlier ban on Brazilian meat does not prohibit the entry of all poultry from Brazil, stated Dubai Municipality on Thursday.
Taking to social media to respond to rumors, the civic body has clarified that the ban's reason was due to failure of some companies in meeting requirements of food safety set by UAE, not due to Halal requirements violation.
The Food Safety Department of DM stated that meat from Brazil are allowed in the country as long as they follow health standards and requirements.
It is confirmed that meat and poultry products are not released in Dubai unless the company has obtained a certified Halal certificate for each consignment of imported food that confirms its conformity to the Halal requirements.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, MoCCAE, had earlier taken a number of precautionary measures on imported food products from Brazil, following information received that the Brazilian authorities have suspended the activity of 21 Brazilian companies on the grounds of unhealthy practices in the production processes.
A prepared list of the banned Brazilian companies and their products was put out by the ministry to ensure their products don't go to market.
The ministry also issued a circular with the ID number printed on the food card of these products to all local authorities, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, the municipalities of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qaiwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, to ensure the country's markets are free of these products.
Dubai Municipality noted that donors of Halal certificates outside the country must meet the criteria set by the relevant authorities in the country.
