Under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Xposure International Photography Festival kicks off on Wednesday, October 12, at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Organised by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), the festival will run until Saturday, October 15, with the participation of the world's brightest and most renowned photographers.
Besides its numerous competitions, which have drawn the participation of over 5,000 competitors from across the globe, Xposure involves specialised photography workshops for professionals and amateurs alike.
As part of SMC's preparations for the launch of this seminal, first-of-its-kind event in the region, Shaikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, chairman of SMC, on Sunday visited Expo Centre Sharjah to check final preparations for the festival. Accompanying him were Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of SMC, and Mohammed Khalaf, Manager of Sharjah TV & Radio.
The event is receiving substantial support from Sharjah Press Club (SPC), which has announced its decision to sponsor 10 of its members to join the photojournalism workshop which will be held as part of Xposure 2016 and led by internationally-acclaimed photojournalist Ian Berry.
Huda Al Dah, head of Sharjah Press Club, said that the initiative falls within the overall context of SPC's work and helps achieve its objective of building bridges of communication and cooperation with and between various press institutions. It also helps the club create an interactive environment with journalists outside the routine workspace.
The head of SPC added: "Images play a vital role in enriching news content. Xposure is an opportunity for photojournalists to learn about the latest equipment, technologies and methods introduced by the world's biggest companies, as well as to meet world-renowned photographers from around the world."
Details about the four-day international photography festival are available at www.xposure.ae.
The event is supported by international news agency Associated Press, and Canon.
