Making the announcement, Col. Ali Alwan, acting Director General of Ajman Police, added that the laboratory, in the Al Jarf area, was functioning at 20 per cent capacity but was expected to be completed by August.
"The laboratory, established at an estimated cost of Dh2 million, is equipped with advanced technological equipment which will be used for anatomy and blood tests and narcotic analysis. The laboratory will help save time and effort in unraveling crime mysteries and facilitate the quick arrest of criminals," Alwan told Khaleej Times yesterday. He said the laboratory was established under instructions from Shaikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, to help enhance the performance of the police and security agencies in the emirate. The new lab will also assist the Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain police departments with anatomy and forensic inspections and crime scene investigations.
The Ajman Police had already appointed a forensic pathologist and two forensic assistants at the laboratory to cater to police departments in Ajman, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, Alwan said. The laboratory was part of the police services expansion project being carried out under the instructions of Shaikh Ammar, he added.
Col. Alwan said the crime graph had risen in the past two years due to the increasing numbers of expatriates from various cultures and backgrounds residing in the emirate
