As many as 96 new parking spaces have been developed at Al Imran and Al Habib bin Zayed mosques in Al Qaraen neighbourhood by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA).
The project is aimed at ensuring convenience for worshippers in the holy month of Ramadan, said Dr Eng Mohsin Balwan, director of road maintenance, SRTA.
"A total of 56 parking lots have been dedicated to facilitate worshippers of the Al Imran mosque in Al Qaren-4 area."
Up to 150m-long internal roads have been built to link these parking spots, he added. "Some walk paths have also been developed."
SRTA has set up an integrated rainwater drainage system for the mosque which has also been equipped with thorough lighting system, he pointed out.
"The new parking spaces will help control traffic and avoid congestion as well as random parking in front of a park situated there."
The Al Habib bin Zayed mosque in Al Qaraen-1 also has 40 new parking lots now, Dr Balwan added.
Up to 130m-long internal roads will connect these parking places, he added.
Late in March, the SRTA had set up 150 new parking spaces, at a cost of Dh1.1million, for the visitors of the Al Noof Park-3.
Recently, SRTA announced an ambitious plan to build up to 1,328 parking spots, worth Dh20million, around all Sharjah mosques in two years.
"SRTA is working on a comprehensive project to develop the entire road network in the emirate, apart from its regular maintenance as per the latest international standards."
"We are more than ready to respond to customers' feedbacks and complaints," the SRTA official underlined.
Sharjah Roads and Customers Call Centre is reachable 24/7 at 600525252, he said. "Our staff attendants are ready to address all feedbacks, enquiries, remarks and complaints."
