Up to 68 countries have so far confirmed participation in the first edition of the Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Award.
The announcement was made by Prof Dr Mohammed Abdulrahim Sultan Alolama, member of Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) organising committee, head of Studies and Research Unit and head of the Competitions Unit, on Tuesday morning.
All the award committees are fully prepared for the contest, a new branch of the DIHQA, which is scheduled to run from November 6 to18 this year.
"As many as 68 female Quran memorisers from across the Arab and Islamic countries and foreign communities have so far confirmed participation and many others are expected to chip in."
The outstanding response reflects the exceptional position of the UAE and how the Arab and Islamic countries are so keen to participate in the contest, he added.
Prof Dr Mohammed Abdulrahim Sultan Alolama, Head of the Competition Unit and Memorisation Affairs, DIHQA
The Competitions Unit has almost finished the list of the volunteers, Prof Dr Alolama elaborated.
"Their responsibilities include organising the accommodation of the contestants, their reception at the Dubai Airport and the auditorium, as well as the transportation and other relevant issues."
The committee has also prepared over 500 questions for the eligible participants, he disclosed. "The tests will be the same as those of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, male section."
The contestants will be examined twice a day and will have to answer five questions, he pointed out. "These include three questions in the morning and two later in the evening in public at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar area."
The organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award has named Shaikha Fatima the Islamic Personality of the Year as part of the DIHQA 19th edition last year, and has accordingly decided to initiate a global Quran competition after her name.
"Each country will be represented by only one full Quran female memoriser who has to be aged less than 68 contestants confirmed for women's Quran contest5 years as is the case with age limit in the male international Holy Quran competition, he said.
