Teams from Sharjah Charity International (SCI) and a number of volunteers have started implementing an Iftar project outside the UAE in coordination with the UAE embassies, SCI's offices and the accredited charities cooperating with them
Mohammed Hamdan Al Zari, director of projects department at SCI, told Khaleej Times that from the first day of Ramadan, fasting people in several Arab and foreign countries sat around the tables served by benefactors, donors, and philanthropists, reflecting an advanced level of social solidarity, cohesion and overwhelming joy. People thanked the SCI and appreciated its efforts to provide these meals, which cost more than Dh2 million, considering that 20,000 meals were distributed daily.
He added that the Iftar project implemented by the SCI outside the UAE is one of the mega projects that reflect the keenness of the SCI on reaching any point in the world where support and help are needed.
He pointed out that the Iftar project abroad is aimed at delivering aid such as hot ready meals or food parcels to the needy people wherever they are, adding that the SCI seeks always to lend a helping hand to whoever needs help including families in need, orphans, widows and poor people.
"To look after the needy people from the financial, social and cultural perspectives with the aim of offering them a decent life, the SCI provides healthcare and aid to the families affected by disasters," he said.
Al Zari pointed out that since its establishment in 1989, the SCI has been striving to achieve a set of goals which include achieving the highest levels of support for the people in need, ensuring that relief facilities are provided in accordance with international standards, spreading the culture of volunteering and humanitarian work among the members of the society, promoting the culture of sponsoring the people in need and increasing the awareness of the society towards it, encouraging optimal use of available resources and many others.
While these goals cover more than 105 countries within the SCI's reach, the SCI's ultimate goal is to reach all the people who need any form of charitable and humanitarian support, he said.
