The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) municipality has fined 44 outlets for selling foods unfit for human consumption during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr holidays.
Some of the food products, offered for sale, were of unknown origin, according to Shaimaa Al Tunaiji, director of public health and environment at the RAK civic body.
"However, not a single violation was recorded against street butchers owing to the intensive municipal inspection campaigns against all markets and abattoirs in the emirate round the clock."
Staff doctors and vets launched daily inspection raids as well on all the departments related to public health, she added.
Records show that the abattoirs of the emirates has done slaughtering of 2,793 animals during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr.
"These included 2,414 at the central abattoir of Filya area, 285 at the RAK abattoir, and 94 at the Al Ghail abattoir."
Indicating, Al Tunaiji said that no increase has been enforced on the set slaughtering charges at these abattoirs. "Staff vets were present at all the emirate's markets and abattoirs to examine the carcass before and after slaughtering."
Should any carcass proved to be unfit, it is directly sent back to the dealer, she added.
"Staff vets were also present at all the border points round the clock during Eid Al Fitr to examine all the imported live animals, meat, fish, and foods, and ensure their validity."
