The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has distributed Ramadan supplies to 4,000 people belonging to 731 low-income families in Ras Al Khaimah.
Mansur Al Naqbi, manager of the RAK branchof the ERC, said that every family was given a gift shopping voucher that is redeemable at certain outlets across the country.
"The distributed vouchers worth Dh500,000 cover the basic food needs of disadvantaged families over the holy month."
The vouchers are contributed as per the number of family members, he added. "The more family members, the more vouchers are given."
Al Naqbi said they are now working on two other major charity schemes. "We are gearing up to distribute Zakat Al Fitr or Fast-ending alms, and Eid clothes."
He added that there is an array of charity schemes where donors and compassionate people can chip in. "An Iftar meal costs Dh15, Zakat Al Fitr has been set at Dh20, and Eid clothes at Dh40. However, people may give more as they wish. The Emirates Red Crescent spares no effort to ease the suffering of vulnerable families, meet their needs, and bring them happiness."
Meanwhile, the Emirates Transport, RAK branch, has distributed Ramadan Meer packages to 50 families of its staff drivers and supervisors in collaboration with Dar Al Ber Society.
