3,226 people have been fined in 2018 so far for being involved in anti-environment violations in Ras Al Khaimah.
Of these, 42 were fined for barbequing on natural green areas, according to Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, advisor to the department of public works and environment in RAK.
"The 3,226 tickets issued this year includes 628 in May, 750 in April, 625 in March, 480 in February, and 763 in January."
Al Shehi added that Jebel Jais saw the biggest number of anti-environment violations. "Up to 146 violations were registered at the Jebel Jais, including three for writing on the rocks of the mountain, dumping wastes from car windows, and littering or leaving behind waste."
The department spares no effort to protect the environment, he emphasised.
"More inspection patrols have been launched all over RAK to curb pollution, protect the environment, and develop public awareness."
The inspection campaigns have been intensified across attractions like Jebel Jais, Corniche Al Qawasim, the Old Corniche, as well as the beaches and parks of the emirate."
The department is planning to kick off a comprehensive plan to ensure the protection of the environment. "Warning signs have been fitted in all natural areas and parks to encourage the public to protect the environment."
The department has further amended and developed all the inspection patrols to be environment friendly, mainly on the beaches and corniche, let alone the most famous site; Jebel Jais, Al Shei underlined.
"There shall be no tolerance with any anti-environment violation," he said. "A fine of Dh500 is slapped against littering or dumping wastes from car window."
