As many as 250 Indian expatriates from the UAE will participate in an upcoming major gathering of the non-resident Indian (NRI) community in the south Indian city of Bengaluru. The annual gathering, named Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, will start on January 9.
The UAE delegation will raise some major issues related to the community at the gathering and seek solutions, said representatives of the delegation. In a meeting held at the Indian Consulate on Thursday evening, deputy consul-general Muraleedharan K., along with renowned names from the community announced that the 250-member delegation will represent all sections of the community.
He highlighted NRIs in the UAE had contributed immensely for enhancing the Indo-UAE relationship at all times and the huge representation from the UAE is expected to further enhance the connect between the community and its government.
This year's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas will be based on the theme "Redefining the engagement with the Indian diaspora". The event will not only bring NRI community closer with the government but also will give them an opportunity to speak about the problems commonly faced by the NRIs.
Last year, during the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas held in Gujarat, almost 3,000 delegates from different parts of the world got the chance to interact directly with the higher officials in the government.
The day is celebrated on January 9 every year to mark the contribution of Indian community in the development of India.
