As many as 20 products have been withdrawn from the local market during the last 8 months, announced the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology as reported by Emarat Al Youm on Sunday.
The withdrawn items include electronics, baby toys, drinking water, and cosmetics and personal care products, said Yousuf Al Saadi, director of technical legislations department.
He added that the withdrawal of products came after a series of inspection campaigns that zeroed in on 280 selling points in the country. A total of 3,800 samples were collected from the market, he pointed out.
In some cases, dangerous components that could adversely affect users were found in the products. As far as electronics are concerned, products that didn't ensure safety and efficiency in consuming electricity were taken off.
Al Saadi said: "Products are withdrawn by coordinating with inspecting entities and authorities around the UAE."
All authorities were informed about the products that didn't meet prescribed standards and later withdrawn from the market, he underlined.
