The UAE has launched 1,400 initiatives across the emirates to help implement strategies of the Year of Giving, it was announced on Monday.
The initiatives will be executed by local government and semi-government entities and private sector establishments, and will include all society segments.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, who is also chairman of the National Committee for the Year of Giving, said the end of the year will see a legislative system, strategic plans and humanitarian initiatives which will make the UAE the capital of giving worldwide.
"The initiatives and local programmes are added to the federal government's initiatives forming a full-fledged system of giving, dedicated to the martyrs of the emirates," Al Gergawi said.
In Dubai, for example, a medical aid programme will be launched to cover medical expenses worth Dh265 million encompassing at least 3,000 patients. Another initiative from the Public Prosecution will help solve domestic problems to protect children, while Consult programme will offer Dh3 million legal counseling services to 1,000 customers through 81 lawyer offices.
In Sharjah, a volunteering initiative will help repair and restore old homes for free and "Philanthropist and volunteering pioneers gathering" will seek to attract major philanthropists to benefit from their expertise in philanthropy.
Elaborating, he noted that this will be made through the humanitarian and charity work making giving more than a just moral value, but rather a tangible, measurable and estimable one with clear indicators and objectives.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Director of the Office of the Martyrs Families at the Court of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and several senior government officials attended the conference.
The conference underscored the declaration of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that all the initiatives, projects and programmes are dedicated to the martyrs of the UAE.
The local initiatives will meet the needs of each emirate, while complimenting each other through projects of joint objectives under the general framework of the world of giving.
They also came under three basic issues: Social responsibility. Volunteering and Serving the country, as well as the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, by chalking out a regulatory and sustainable frame for the humanitarian and charitable work at all levels and forms nationwide.
The initiatives are subsumed under the umbrella of "The National Strategy for the Year of Giving", as they feature as a full-fledged package of programmes, projects and campaigns which aim at upgrading the standard of the different aspects of the humanitarian and charity works in each and every emirate.
