A grade seven student has developed an innovative system that can help save lives of children left behind in vehicles accidentally. The system uses camera sensors to start air circulation and alert parents through a mobile app.
Trisha Sayani from Gems Our Own English High School, Dubai, designed and developed the 'Bilvård 360' prototype that can potentially save lives.
The 12-year-old Indian girl came up with the solution after reading about many incidents of children being forgotten in cars. "Children being left in cars is a very serious problem that all parents must take seriously," Sayani said.
She said she came up with the idea last year and started on the prototype with the help of her mentor at school.
"The system uses a sensor camera to scan the car from inside three to ten minutes after the engine has been switched off," she explained. "If there is someone in the car, an alert message is set through the app on a registered phone number. It also circulates air inside the car and sounds off an alarm."
The app lets guardians get a 360-degree view of the car from inside. "The main aim of the project is to help give peace of mind to parents/guardians."
On May 21, Sayani was among the three winners of the Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) award (junior category) at the annual Gems Innovation Awards virtual ceremony. "I am now looking forward to work on my project and will try to launch it in the market," Sayani said.
