Dubai — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun Phase I of the dualisation of Seih Assalam Road. Under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the project falls in a sector stretching 12km from Bab Al Shams Hotel/Dubai International Endurance City to the roundabout of the rest area of the cycling track on Al Qudra Road.
The project is estimated to cost about Dh69 million. Phase II of the project is scheduled to begin shortly, starting from the cycling track roundabout, extending 20km up to Dubai – Al Ain Road.
“Upgrading the Seih Assalam Road project aims to enhance the safe and smooth flow of traffic on the Road. It would ... comprise two lanes in each direction,” said Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA’s Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors.
Al Tayer said works include making three more roundabouts at junctions, street lighting works and storm-water drainage network. Metal rails would be erected in the median to fend off casual U-turns, and ground markings would be repainted.
“Upon completion, the project will create a key traffic corridor ... which passes over Emirates Road and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and runs through to Jumeirah,” said Al Tayer.
This year, the RTA widened the Al Qudra Road in a sector extending 12km from Jebel Ali-Lehbab junction up to Bab Al Shams roundabout, comprising three lanes in each direction at a cost of Dh110 million.
