As part of road improvement works on Mleiha Road, the Sharjah Police have banned heavy trucks from entering the road without prior permission. Violating trucks will be subjected to confiscation and the company owning the trucks will have to pay hefty fines.
Col Ahmed bin Darweesh, Director of Central Region Police, said that heavy trucks are not allowed on Mleiha road from Al Badea intersection to Kalba. The police have set up detours and an alternative route for heavy trucks.
However, the police would issue permission to some heavy trucks belonging to companies working on road improvement project, in coordination with the Sharjah Road and Transport Authority (SRTA). Even those trucks are not allowed to use the road during peak hours, he said.
The drivers of loaded heavy trucks coming from neighbouring countries also could obtain permission from the police before they use the road. These trucks are subjected to inspection and are not allowed to use the road at any time. Col Bin Darweesh said that police patrols have been deployed along the road to keep a check on violations.
