The official announced that these are being electronically linked so all types of transactions, including driving licences, registration of vehicles and their migration, are done much faster electronically with no use of papers at traffic customer services centres being set up throughout the country.
“A new high-tech standard is being developed to serve all residents, including expatriates, just under one roof in traffic and licensing departments throughout the country. Once fully implemented, residents do not need to go from one section to another to complete their traffic-related transactions,” said Brig Al Za’abi.
He also said all traffic departments and their service centres are being linked to form a Federal Traffic System.
“All centres will provide the 61 services to customers regardless of where they have their documents originally registered. The system includes data standardisation in the traffic and licensing departments to facilitate and speed up access to information on registered vehicles and machinery as well as driving licences.”Brig Al Za’abi said the system allows residents to pay fines for offences, pay fees for renewal and registration of licences and other related permits at any service centre in any emirate. “They can obtain possession certificates and export and import documents for vehicles and other machineries from these centres,” he said.
The traffic chief at the ministry further added the work on the new system started in 2006 with the building of a central database, which has soundproof security. Once the system is put in place with the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the General Command of Dubai Police and police departments in all emirates, services will be provided to customers’s doorsteps.
Colonel Anwar Abdullah Al Mulla, Director of Information Technology and Communications at the Abu Dhabi Police and chairman of the committee tasked with integrating traffic systems with the emirate of Dubai, said the system allows individuals and companies to carry out all traffic-related transactions with ease and speed.
He said: “The system unites procedures between traffic departments and provides automatic checking of information to avoid human errors, and obviates the use of paper in carrying out transactions. Residents will be issued unifying cards to help carry out their transactions for all traffic-related procedures at any centre.”
