Motorists heading to the Central Market in Sharjah from both directions can expect delays for the next week due to maintenance and roadworks.
Informed sources with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Monday afternoon that the planned development works are slated to run on November 19 to 25.
"This is a diversion more than a closure, and it is the last phase of the maintenance works."
Drivers heading from Oruba Street to the Central Market are to be slightly affected by the roadworks, they added.
"The pavement tiles and asphalt layers of the internal roads at the Sharjah Central Market are to be replaced and repainted."
"This is actually part of a two-month bigger project, worth Dh4 million."
The project, to cover part of King Faisal road around Ittihad Park, spans the replacement of the interlock, tiles, and asphalt layers there, she added.
"All the roads and streets in the said area will be repainted."
RTA Sharjah, to ensure public safety and boost traffic flow, has provided some alternative routes in collaboration with the Sharjah police, they underlined.
"All drivers are urged to follow road sign boards to avoid congestion," she said. "The safety engineer concerned can be reached at (0501805043) or (0504661491)."
RTA Sharjah is more than ready to respond to customers' feedbacks and complaints.
"RTA Sharjah Call Centre is reachable 24/7 at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints."
