The violators will be slapped with a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 black points.
The offenders were booked during the celebrations from Dec. 1- 3 across the emirate, said Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the Department of Traffic and Patrols. He said some motorists in the processions, especially at the Abu Dhabi Corniche behaved recklessly.
The Sharjah Police have confiscated four vehicles and issued fines for 732 others during the National Day celebrations. The police said that some of the violators over decorated their vehicles and covered the number plates with pictures of Shaikhs and national flag, while others drove recklessly. The cars seized by the police had done unauthorised modifications to increase speed and sound.
Colonel Shawaf Mohammed Abdul Rahman, Director of Traffic and Patrol at the Sharjah Police, said that the police patrols were deployed in all the main roads, crowded areas, beaches and shopping centres to control traffic and maintain security. No major accidents took place in the emirate, he said, adding that the celebrations went smoothly and peacefully.
The Fujairah Police have impounded more than 70 vehicles for violations during National Day celebrations.
Three motor bikes were also confiscated in the Fujairah area and in a separate seizure in Dibba Fujairah, 18 cars along with three motor bikes were apprehended by authorities.
Colonel Ali Rashid bin Awash Al Yamahi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said drivers of the seized vehicles had committed punishable offences, including changing the colour of a vehicle, taking to the streets in unauthorised car parades and reckless driving.
“Tickets were issued for 171 offences during the National Day break, where 269 accidents took place, in which one person died and seven were reported injured,” he said.
