Motorists have been urged to drive cautiously during foggy weather to avoid accidents.
Fog is currently blanketing parts of the emirate during the night and early morning hours, reducing visibility and causing accidents if motorists don't drive with care, Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
In a recent lecture at Salem Bin Kabinah Al Rashedi Majlis in Al Nahda Region of Abu Dhabi, officers highlighted the reasons that lead to traffic accidents during the fog, which included not leaving enough distance between cars, sudden change of lanes, speeding, negligence and driver's inattentiveness.
Major General Abdul Rahman Al Ali, from Abu Dhabi Police said: "Motorists are advised to follow traffic instructions during foggy conditions."
"Drivers should be cautious and should drive safely and leave enough distance between vehicles due to heavy fog and unclear vision especially during early morning hours and at night."
Police also urged motorists to reduce speed, avoid overtaking, use low lights and avoiding hazard lights.
Under new traffic laws, driving in foggy conditions without using low or foggy lights is punishable by a Dh500 and four black points.
