Abu Dhabi - Awareness patrol teams are on the roads of Abu Dhabi to curb accidents during the holy month of Ramadan.
To ensure the safety of road users, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police has intensified its field awareness campaign on roads near the shopping centres in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region (Al Gharbia).
The move is aimed at reducing traffic accidents, promote traffic culture and raise awareness about traffic laws among the public. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the directorate, said that the Ramadan awareness road campaigns seek to raise public awareness regarding the concept of traffic safety and their commitment to abide by rules.
This is achieved through field interactions with motorists to help them understand the traffic laws in order to provide traffic safety.
Al Ameri pointed out that “Tathqeef” awareness patrol teams will be on the roads during the Taraweeh prayer timings, until 1am.
The programme includes distributing awareness pamphlets and booklets to the motorists; and urging them to fasten their seat belts, avoid using mobile phones while driving, avoid running red lights, and not to obstruct traffic near shopping centres and places of worship.
Colonel Al Ameri urged motorists to adhere to the permitted speed limits, to leave sufficient space between cars, pay attention while driving, give priority to pedestrians on crosswalks, fasten seat belts, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and to drive carefully.
He reiterated the importance of driving carefully around the time of Iftar in order to avoid accidents due to lack of focus, being stressed, or driving hastily in order to arrive on time for Iftar.
