A police source said the motorists nabbed, of different nationalities, have flouted the set traffic rules and regulations, and committed a variety of violations.
Director General of the Central Operations Department at the RAK Police Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim, said some of the motorists penalised were not licensed for driving or failed to renew their driving licenses.
“Some others broke the tint limit rule of the vehicle window glass while some others were driving recklessly and endangering road users’ life.”
The other violations recorded spanned driving an uninsured vehicle, failing to check the car after introducing major engine amendments, manipulating the registration number, and driving a noisy vehicle. Brig Ghanim said the inspection campaign was preceded by a drive to develop motorists’ awareness about traffic rules as well as to inform them of the risks of speeding.
“We also alerted the parents never to let their unlicensed or underage children drive their vehicles and put their life at stake, particularly with the advent of the new academic year.”
He added that the inspection campaign will continue for one full month, and shall cover all areas and regions of the emirate to ensure law observance. “No vehicle shall be released until all the fines due are paid, and only after the end of the impoundment days.” As per a tougher unified traffic law with higher fines and a black points system was enacted in 2008 all over the country, “the erring motorists penalised with 24 black points shall lose their driving licence,” he said. -ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
