As many as 30 million people have used the public shuttle service - run by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah - in the first six months of this year.
The convenient and high-quality service has attracted more passengers to the city, intercity and taxis across the emirate, according to Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, RTA Sharjah, director for transport affairs.
"We have transported about 167,000 passengers on a daily basis, and that reflects the growing trust in our high quality services, particularly after the introduction of new buses and taxis as well as additional bus routes."
Al Jarwan said that the four franchise cab companies operating in the emirate - including Sharjah, Emirates, Union and Citi Taxi - have transported 22,601,000 passengers on 15,067,000 trips in the first half of the year.
"More passengers in the eastern region have gone for advanced taxi bookings, with 7,753 requests processed in six months," he said. "Three taxi auto call machines have been installed in Kalba and two in Khor Fakkan."
The RTA office, active round-the-clock at the Sharjah International Airport, has run 191,356 trips, he pointed out. "The airport taxi fleet includes 182 regular, family and women-only cabs that are driven by 197 cabbies."
Sharjah public buses have helped commute 3,510,000 passengers on nine routes as part of 172,343 trips - 4,631 more as compared to the same period last year, Al Jarwan revealed. "The Sayer prepaid cards - offering 25 per cent discount - attracted more passengers."
The intercity buses, commuting 20,000 passengers every day, have transported 3,620,000 people on 17 routes in 166,404 trips, he said.
Official records show that the Call Centre has received 483,000 calls in the first half of the year. "This is around 80,000 calls in a month which included 318,000 for advance taxis bookings."
Al Jarwan said that RTA Sharjah is more than ready to respond to customers' feedbacks and complaints. "RTA Sharjah Call Centre is reachable 24/7 at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints."
