The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has warned social media users in UAE against messages from fake accounts of 'famous persons'.

In a statement issued on social media, the TRA warned that messages or groups promoting tolerance - as a tribute to UAE's Year of Tolerance - are fake and urged residents to ignore such messages to avoid losing their accounts to hackers and fraudsters.

TRA also posted a screengrab of a similar message, sent on Instagram. The messages contained a link asking the receiver to join a WhatsApp 'Tolerance' group - where then they would hack their accounts.
