The Inaugural MIT ZOBA 7's organised by the Zahira College Colombo OBA-UAE was successfully held at Gems Modern Academy.
Old Boys from 14 Sri Lankan Schools participated across three major sports - cricket, soccer and rugby. The day was full of excitement with all players competing fearlessly eyeing the MIT ZOBA 7's Championship.
Rugby giants St. Peters College Colombo defeated Trinity College Kandy 21-7 in the final. Madisha Silva of St. Peters College was adjudged both the Player of the Tournament and the Player of the Finals. In the soccer final, TB Jayah MV shocked hosts Sri Lankan Schools Soccer Zahira College Colombo 3-1.
Musthaq Rajudeen from Zahira was adjudged the Player of the Tournament whilst Mohamed Rikaaz and Azad Rajudeen from TB Jayah were awarded the Player of the Final and the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament respectively.
Likeweise the cicket tournament also witnessed some close matches before Chilaw Marians and Zahira Mawanella qualified to the final.
The Chilaw Marians were too strong for the Mawanella restricting them to 54 before chasing it down with more than an over to spare to win the Inaugural MIT ZOBA 7's Cricket championship.
Mohamed Fairoze from Mawanella and Ishan Askin from Marians were adjudged the Best Batsman and Best Bowler respectively. Suresh Nilanga from Marians was awarded the Player of the Finals for his splendid performances with the ball and bat.
The highlight of the evening was the soccer match between the under 13 boys of Al Nahda Soccer Club and Little Super Stars. Al Nahda boys emerged Champions beating their opponents 2-0.
The Chief Guest of the event was Charitha Yattogoda, Consul General for Dubai and Northern Emirates.
