Al Wahda were held to a goalless draw by Emirates in the Arabian Gulf League at the Al Nahyan Stadium on Saturday night.
Despite the stalemate, The Clarets, who won the Arabian Gulf Cup last week - their first piece of silverware in five years - moved up to third.
That left them primed for a spot in next year's AFC Champions League. But the Abu Dhabi club face battle for that spot with Dubai clubs Al Wasl and Al Nasr.
Their third draw and their first at home, gave Al Wahda 36 points, a point more than Al Wasl, and three ahead of Al Nasr.
Al Nasr could go level with Al Wahda if they manage to upset defending champions Al Ain at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Emirates' fifth stalemate and third on the road left the Ras Al Khaimah club with 23 points and three spots from the bottom. Emirates are four points ahead of relegation threatened Fujairah.
Al Wahda had more of the ball in the first half but they only had a lone chance to show for it. At the other end, Emirates were content on playing the counter and had half a dozen opportunities, the most threatening one being a screamer from Waleed Ambar.
But Al Wahda goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani, who received the Arabian Gulf Cup Final Star trophy from Suhail Al Areefi, CEO of the Pro League Committee, prior to kick-off, pulled off a fine acrobatic save to deny the young and upcoming talent Ambar.
Coach Javier Aguirre came up with a couple of reinforcements prior to the start of the second half by bringing on youngster Sultan Saif for captain Ismail Matar, while Amer Omar replaced Mohamed Alakberi.
And those twin changes added a bit more teeth to their offensive play with Sultan Saif coming with an effort. But Emirates goalkeeper Ali Saqr was on hand to deny Saif.
