Uzbekistan defeated the UAE Olympic (u-23) team 2-0 in a friendly on Saturday at the Diab Awana Stadium.
The match was part of a four-team tournament for the UAE Olympic team as they prepare for the the Asian qualifiers to be held in March 2019 for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The team picked by Polish coach Maciej Skorza matched their Uzbek rivals well in the first half but the coach made a a number of substitution in the second half to try out all the other playes in ther squad. The Uzbeks, however, took advantage of the experiments carried out by the Polish coach by scoring two goals in the space of four minutes for their victory. Kirov was first on target after 75 minutes and Baknov added another four minutes later.
This was the first defeat for the UAE Olympic team during the training camp after a 2-0 win over Kuwait. Kuwaiti two goals for the goal, while the Japanese team drew with his Uzbek counterpart with two goals each.
In the other match on Saturday, Kuwait's Croatian coach Rajko Magic made 10 changes to the team that lost to UAE by the off goal in three and Japan thrashed them 5-0. The UAE Olympic Team had won their first match against Kuwait 2-1 while Japan and Uzbekistan had shared honours in a 2-2 draw.
On Tuesday, UAE take on Japan and Uzbekistan meet Kuwait to complete the round-robin league.
