One Stop Tourism had a comfortable ride in a one-sided and low-scoring final of the Fourth Interface Transworld Ramadan T20 Cricket Tournament at the Fairgrounds of the Dubai Men's College on Tuesday night.
Having bundled out New Medical Centre (NMC) for a measly 88, it required One Stop Tourism only 10.1 overs for the loss of four wickets to achieve their target and emerge champions of the month-long tournament which was successfully organised by Dubai Cricket Council.
NMC won the toss and once again it was Indika Sampat, fresh from his half century against Al Faraa in the previous match, who put his hand up to top-score for his team with 34 while Asim Ijaz (20) did his bit but the rest of the batsmen capitulated under some very disciplined and accurate bowling from One Stop bowlers to be bowled out for 88 in 16 overs.
One Stop were brimming with confidence having come into the final with a comprehensive win over Fly Emirates where again their bowling was the talking point when they skittled the airline team out for just 90.
Against NMC too they were spot on. Waqas Alvi struck first blood removing opener Fayaz Ahmad for 3 and when Mohammad Azhar scalped Asim Ijaz and Mohammad Usman in quick succession the rest of the batsmen, Sampat apart, fell like nine pins. So sharp and tight was the bowling that even Hassan Ali's bowling figures of 3-0-20-1 looked expensive.
But he more than made up for it with the bat to be named the man of the match. One Stop were rocked on the back foot in their chase when their opener Fahad Ansari was out for nought and Ghulam Shabbir hit two fours in his short stay at the crease and departed.
In a final even a small target can look a gigantic one. But at 13 for 2 Hassan put the team's doubts and nervousness to rest. Although there were plenty of overs to achieve this small target Hassan threw caution to the wind by blazing his way to four big sixes and three hits to the fence in his 16-ball stay at the crease.
By the time he departed the writing was on the wall as Mohammad Qasim (21) and Shoaib Laghari (18) completed NMC's final rites.
Brief scores (final): One Stop Tourism beat NMC by six wickets NMC 88 all out in 16 overs (Indika Sampat 34, Asim Ijaz 20; Tahir Latif 2/8, Mohammad Azhar 2/16) One Stop 89 for 4 in 10.1 overs (Hassan Ali 38, Mohammad Qasim 21, Shoaib Laghari 18 n.o). Man of the match: Hassan Ali of One Stop Tourism. Best batsman of tournament: Gulrais Sadaf of Al Faraa (210 runs in 5 matches). Best bowler of tournament: Nisar Ahmad of New Medical Centre (11 wickets in 5 matches). Man of the Series: Anfal P.M. of Globelink West Star Shipping (147 runs and five wickets in four matches).
