Marking the imminent launch of the UAE's Hope Mars Mission in the early hours of Monday in a journey to explore Mars, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) celebrated the event in a fitting style.
Through its social media platforms, the NOC republished images and video clips of NASA's Astrolympic Project; which presents the achievements of Olympic athletes from a universal perspective.
The innovative project of NASA, which was unveiled at the time of the Rio Olympic Games 2016, compares the achievements of talented Olympic athletes with iconic features of the universe. It established a synergy between the accurate universal system and the life of Olympic athletes; which is characterised by speed, accuracy and time.
Developed by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory communications group, Astrolympics project discusses physical links between sport and space highlighted by topics such as speed, distance, time, mass, rotation and pressure. It provides a brief explanation of physical concepts and makes a comparison between common daily experiences and Olympic events, and space explorations.
Some studies presented by the project made an imaginary comparison between the speed of the fastest runner in the world, the speed limit on a highway, and the speed of the debris of an exploding star. It is particularly relevant as the Olympic Games are witnessing human records close to miraculous achievements, which made NASA officials believe that the Olympic Games constitute an opportunity to transcend the limits of human capabilities.
The NOC interacted with this prominent event by presenting a common aspect shared by sports and space through projects presented by NASA to celebrate athletes at the launch of the Olympic Games. The NOC's opted to capitalise on the opportunity to express love for the nation and leadership at a time full of hope and optimism for the success of the first experience of the UAE and the Arab world to explore the planets.
The NOC was keen to provide distinctive historical glimpses of the Olympic athletes from a global perspective. It also invited the attention to how to benefit from research in this regard to celebrate the efforts of the UAE that dazzled the world with its lofty goals of serving humanity in all walks of life. This mega UAE achievement of launching Hope Mars Mission adds to an impressive record of the nation and reflects the value of science not only among the people of the UAE but also the entire Arab world.
