Charlie Appleby has put his money on Jungle Cat and Baccarat in the Al Quoz Sprint for the Dubai World Cup Carnival on Saturday. But the British Thoroughbredracehorse trainer is wary of Ertijaal.
"He is the horse we got to beat because he is a home player. He's done nothing but excite everybody watching him here based on his track record in his last start.
Limato is the other horse Appleby feels could spoil his party.
"Limato obviously brings his Group 1 European sprinting form here so these are the two horses we have to get in front of.
"It's nice if Jungle Cat can get his head in front. In the Royal Ascot raceday he ran a very creditable race and ran well here in the Al Quoz Sprint last year so he's got that confidence back again and that's what you want going into the World Cup.
Referring to Baccarat, he said he was very pleased with his form. "He (Baccarat) has been in great form and had already beaten Jungle Cat. They both have different profiles - Baccarat obviously stepping back into group company whereas Jungle Cat has been there and done it and been very competitive at that level."
Appleby has Comicas running in the Dubal Golden Shaheen. "It will be a bit of a challenge for Comicas but he deserves to be there. He's a winner here on this surface. He ran a very creditable race on Super Saturday finishing fourth so we thought we'd give him a shot. Unfortunately he faces a bigger hurdle with a posting drawn in Gate 13 so he will have to get away from it. It's going to be tough for him."
Fly At Dawn, his horse in the UAE Derby, Appleby feels deserves to be there. He is very versatile. He won the Guineas trial here but unfortunately he missed the Guineas. We then made him run in the Meydan Classic where he finished a solid second. So we hope he picks up the pieces and comes up with a strong performance.
