The International Cricket Council (ICC) deferred all the decisions on the agenda to June, the governing body announced on Thursday.
The Board met via teleconference and with a lot on the plate and a lot hanging in the balance, took the decision to postpone it to June 10.
"The Board met via teleconference today with all agenda items deferred until 10 June 2020 following a discussion, led by Chairman Shashank Manohar, around the issue of confidentiality," the ICC said in a statement.
The ICC said that a number of Board members had raised their concerns over this issue recently and felt it required immediate attention to ensure the sanctity and confidentiality of Board matters in line with the highest standards of governance.
"There was unanimous agreement to immediately initiate an independent investigation led by the ICC's Ethics Officer and supported by global experts," the ICC said.
Manu Sawhney, the ICC Chief Executive, will update the Board at its next meeting scheduled to be held on June 10.
"The Board also requested the ICC management continue with their discussions with stakeholders in exploring various contingency options in light of the rapidly changing public health situation caused by the Covid 19 virus," the ICC said.
Among the items on the agenda were the election procedure for the ICC chairman's post, with incumbent Shashank Manohar not seeking an extension to his term.
Other items included a discussion on the ICC Cricket Committee's recommendations as well as a decision on the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Media reports had said that the World Cup to be held from October 18 to November 15 would be postponed but the ICC denied it saying preparations were on track.
Another issue that lurked in the background was the tax exemption for the T20 World Cup to be hosted by India next year.
Meetings were held from Tuesday to Thursday.
