Hammadi wants to see UAE flag fly high in Tokyo

Dubai - The 34-year-old Emirati has been training hard in the build up to Tokyo next August and has already landed a silver and a bronze at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai.

UAE's Paralympic champion Mohamed Al Hammadi has said that breaking world records will pale into significance when it comes to seeing the country's flag fluttering high at the Paralympics in Tokyo.
The 34-year-old Emirati has been training hard in the build up to Tokyo next August and has already landed a silver and a bronze in the 400m and 100m respectively in the T34 category at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai.
Al Hammadi, who won gold in the 800m at the Rio Paralympics apart from a silver and bronze in the 200m and 100m respectively in London in 2012, will also feature in the 800m, his pet event, in Dubai.
And the twin gold medal winner at the Worlds in 2011 in Christchurch, is eager to sign off with gold heading into Tokyo.
"My main focus has always been on the 800m. I have a gold medal for the UAE in the Paralympics and I'm looking forward to winning a gold at Tokyo. I've been training quite hard in the build up to Tokyo," said Al Hammadi.
"Tokyo is just 10 months away. It is very important that I keep the momentum because there will be some strong athletes there," he added. Al Hammadi wants to see the UAE flag fly high again at the Paralympics.
"Before I wanted a gold at the Paralympics and I have one now. I want to continue winning medals. A world record is not important. Anybody can break a world record at an event on a given day.
"What is important is to see the UAE flag flying high because my country has been very supportive and I want to make the UAE happy," Al Hammadi said.
