Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho is set to return to Dubai on Saturday 1 October to visit his eponymous soccer academy.
Widely considered to be the greatest player of his generation, the 36-year-old established the Ronaldinho Soccer Academy (RSA) to hone the skills of the region's leading young talent. RSA is managed by DUPLAYS, the leading organiser of recreational leagues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, a Press release said.
On his latest trip to Dubai, Ronaldinho will offer the region's junior footballers advice before enjoying a kick-about at the DUPLAYS-managed Koora Dome in Al Wasl Sports Club, Al Jaddaf.
"I am very excited to be returning to Dubai, a city I have visited many times before as both a player and a holidaymaker," said Ronaldinho.
"This academy is part of the next stage of my career and represents a true labour of love - I can think of nothing better than passing on my experiences to the next generation of talented footballers growing up in Dubai, the UAE and beyond."
Part of the Brazilian team that won the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, Ronaldinho also took home the Fifa Ballon d'Or (World Player of the Year) in 2004 and 2005. During his time with Barcelona he won two league titles and the Champions League.
RSA, which opened in Dubai earlier this year as the first-of-its-kind in the region, is mentored by qualified coaches from Ronaldinho's Brazilian youth team to develop an in-depth tactical understanding of the game.
As part of DUPLAYS GCC roll out strategy and aim to encourage more participatory sport in the region, the company plans to expand the academy and its community sports programmes into Saudi Arabia, with the first expected to open in Jeddah.
