Many have waxed eloquent about MS Dhoni, his captaincy and his attributes of being cool and calm, and the bludgeoning fan list of the Chennai Super Kings skipper has two more names in UAE all-rounder Rohan Mustafa and the country's former captain Khurram Khan.
Khan and Mustafa, who have been an integral part of the UAE fabric and its cricketing journey, felt that there was a lot to learn from the World Cup-winning hero.
"I love Dhoni's captaincy," Mustafa told Anis Sajan, mentor of the Delhi Bulls franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, also the managing director of Danube Group, in a video chat titled 'Cricket Unplugged with Anis Sajan.'
"I'm a fan of his cool and calmness because I'm not that calm a person while on the field. I just want to sit with him and get to know what he thinks, what he does. It will help us as well," he added.
Khan, who was also part of the video chat, said: "He is such a wonderful captain and he is so calm.
Khan also said that it would benefit the UAE players if they were given an opportunity to be part of the IPL, which will be held here from September 19 to November 10.
"Your improvement, your growth does not come only from just playing in the ground. Obviously, being with the team, being with the coaching staff, practicing with them, playing practice matches, being in the ground with them and seeing how things work in such a big setup, helps you as a cricketer. IPL is obviously the daddy of all cricket and even if you didn't get a chance to play, I think it would still be very helpful for the players," he felt.
Khan, who arrived in the UAE in 1996 and made his debut for the UAE team in 2001, said it was a special feeling and magical to play in a World Cup.
The UAE, who had first qualified for the 50-over World Cup in 1996, also played in the 2015 edition held in Australia and New Zealand.
"I've played so many tournaments and other ICC events but playing a World Cup is like whatever hard work you have done your entire life, it's paid off. It is just being there, it is something different. It is so special, it is so magical. It was an amazing experience playing in the World Cup. And the first couple of matches, we were very close to winning those games. But playing in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was a dream come true," said the 49-year-old.
