The 14th edition of the Asia Cup, dubbed the 'Biggest Asian Face Off,' will have Bangladesh, runners-up of the previous instalment, locking horns with Sri Lanka, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today.
It promises to be a blockbuster of cricket over the next 14 days, a mini-World Cup if you like, with Asian heavyweights India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as cricket's new full member Afghanistan and minnows Hong Kong, going full tilt for the glistening trophy.
And India's loss has become the UAE's gain. Originally scheduled to take place in India, the tournament was moved to the Emirates after Pakistan refused to play in India because of tensions between the two countries.
The UAE's prowess in hosting world-class events is well-documented and the country is ready to put on another fine show yet again with this tournament. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host 13 matches, with Dubai being allotted eight fixtures, including the final.
Fans are waiting with bated breath for the clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai on Wednesday. Tickets are selling fast for the big event.
