Al Wasl's rebuilding process for the new season has continued with the Arabian Gulf League club signing Ecuadorian international Fernando Gaibor.
The Cheetahs signed the 27-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan from Argentina's Primera Division side club Atletico Independiente.
The club announced the playmaker's acquisition on Thursday.
Hailing from Montalvo, Los Rios, Gaibor came through the youth system of Ecuador Serie A club Emelec. Gaibor joined the youth team in 2004 and were with them until 2008 and broke into the first team in 2007. He made 237 appearances and scored 31 goals for Emelec from 2007 to 2018. He also had 33 assists.
And it was a trophy-laden 11 seasons with the team as he won the Serie A three seasons in a row from 2013 to 2015. Gaibor also finished runner-up four times in the Serie A in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.
Gaibor also won the Best Young Player Award in 2011.
After 12 appearances with the Ecuador Under-20 side, Gaibor made his senior international debut in 2013 when he was 22. He went on to make 15 appearances for Ecuador, scoring two goals. Both those goals came in international friendlies against El Salvador and Trindad and Tobago in 2017.
Gaibor becomes the second arrival this week after The Cheetahs signed 19-year-old Argentine prodigy Joaquin Perez.
Striker Perez came through 36-time Argentina Primera Division champions River Plate's youth system.
Ghanian defender George Dwubeng and Brazilian midfielder Matheus da Silva are the other Under-21 players in Al Wasl's squad apart from Emirati youth players.
