Ashwanth Valthapa, Osama Hassan, Syed Haider and Rishab Mukherjee were the stars for the UAE as the home team topped Group A with an emphatic 355-run win over Iran in the ACC U19 Western Region qualifiers at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Inspired by Valthapa's magnificent unbeaten century (100 not out, 81 balls, 6 fours) and fine half-centuries from Hassan (97, 55 balls, 16 fours) and Haider (73, 59 balls, 8 fours), the UAE, after being put into bat, made a mockery of the Iranian attack, posting a massive 408 for seven in 50 overs.
None of the Iranian bowlers escaped the mayhem as Valthapa, Hassan and Haider put them to the sword.
Amir Hamza (10-0-95-1) bore the brunt of the UAE assault on Monday.
In reply, Iran succumbed to the pressure of chasing a massive target as they were bowled out for a paltry 53.
Mukherjee was the pick of the UAE bowlers with five wickets for eight runs as 10 Iranian batsmen failed to reach the double figures.
If not for Edris Raeisi's 29 (51 balls, 1 four), the Iranian total could have looked even more embarrassing on the scorecard.
This was the UAE's third straight win in Group A.
Brief scores: The UAE 408/7 in 50 overs (Ashwanth Valthapa 100 not out, Osama Hassan 97, Syed Haider 73) beat Iran 53 all out in 23.4 overs (Edris Raeisi 29; Rishab Mukherjee 5/8) by 355 runs.
