Co-washing, or 'conditioner-washing' is now all the rage - a new fad where you skip the shampoo and jump straight to the conditioner. The point of it is to help the scalp retain its natural oils, which are usually stripped away by agents present in shampoos. But is this new technique really helping us prevent hair fall? Hair experts across the globe say, it depends.

If you're blessed with curly, wavy hair, coloured hair with a healthy scalp, or have tresses that leans more towards the dry side, then co-washing is something you could include in your shower routine.

Common fears surrounding the topic are hair loss and dandruff, but the pros at The Hair Addict say that this can be thwarted if you choose your conditioner wisely.

For starters, pick a conditioner that contains no silicones or waxes as these tend to leave build up on your scalp and eventually lead to undesirable side effects. You should also opt for a conditioner with no heavy oils or butters, as these won't rinse out completely with water, and with subsequent washes you will find your hair weighed down and once again, leave behind unwanted product build up on your scalp

Along the same vein, if you have fine, straight hair or an oily scalp, experts recommend steering clear of the trend and continue the regular shampoo and conditioner combo.

Secondly, it is advisable to read the labels on conditioners and look for those that fall under the co-wash criteria to ensure you're implementing the technique seamlessly. There are many products that are suitable and affordable in the market.

If you are experimenting with shampoo alternatives, try out a moisturising Sidr-based cleanser that will leave your hair clean and soft.
