The 115 million-year-old remains of newly discovered species of carnivorous dinosaur as large as a bus has been unearthed in Thailand.
Dug up at a dinosaur graveyard in Nakhon Ratchasima, Siamraptor Suwati may have rivalled the Tyrannosaurus Rex at over 26 feet long and weighing in at least 3.5 tons.
The species was identified from the remains of four individuals. It was shown to have large jaws and up to 8-inch long serrated teeth. The fossils also included skull, spine, limb and hip bones, Metro reports.
The beast would have been fast, running on its hind legs to hunt prey. It also had short arms ending in long claws and was short-snouted.
"Physical and genetic analysis indicates the Siamraptor is a basal member of the Carcharodontosaurs. This means it represents a very early evolutionary split from the rest of the group," said study lead author Dr Duangsuda Chokchaloemwong, of Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhatn University.
