Meraas has announced the launch of The Green Planet, the region's first bio-dome that recreates a tropical forest with its rich biodiversity of over 3,000 plants and animals.
The enclosed space, located at City Walk, will offer visitors an immersive expedition into the tropics.
Scheduled to open in the first half of 2016, The Green Planet is set to inspire people to learn about and care more for plants and animals.
Within The Green Planet, a green canopy will cover the lush tropical vegetation, recreating the natural habitat of species and giving visitors a glimpse into the beauty of another world.
The bio-dome will seamlessly integrate exhibitions and displays that encourage visitors to explore the inner workings of the ecosystem. The building also includes a giant 25-metre tree, which is the largest indoor man-made and life-sustaining tree in the world.
The encounters with plants and animals will motivate children to learn facts, while at the same time instill respect for the intricacy and fragility of the environment.
Designed to embrace principles of sustainability, The Green Planet's building has received the global LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification and is fully compliant with the Dubai Municipality green building regulations and specifications.
The Green Planet will appeal to nature lovers while providing educational insights on nature. It is built around the desire to contribute to environmental consciousness in the region.
As part of this priority, The Green Planet will aim to not only impress visitors with a green oasis, but at the same time ensure that they enjoy an educational and fun experience.
